Do you agree with the petition to counteract Prop 8 and save marriage by banning divorce?
Question by Gypsy: Do you agree with the petition to counteract Prop 8 and save marriage by banning divorce?
Those who promoted and voted a yes vote for Proposition 8 believe marriage is sacred and in god’s eyes between only a man and woman. If you read the reasons for why proposition 8 should have been passed and replace the words ‘Gay Marriage’ with ‘Divorce’, it now becomes an issue of discrimination, because those for it believe they have the right to divorce and remarry.
The Bible (Matthew 5:32) teaches Christians that they are not to get divorced. It clearly states if you get divorced, you may not remarry. Your only option is reconciliation. Marriage is, and always has been, ONE man and ONE woman.
What are your thoughts?
But doesn’t “divorce is acceptable in the case of unfaithfulness” now make both the man and woman adulterers regardless of who cheated?
ps. I asked this question earlier and it was deleted for violation. I didn’t understand why people would find it offending. It’s just a question.

i would love that logic, but the bible states that divorce is acceptable in the case of unfaithfulness.

*edit: unfaithfulness doesn’t have anything to do with adultery (necessarily). unfaithfulness means betrayal. So, for instance, your country is at war, and you find out your wife is a spy for the other side. Your wife is disloyal to you, constantly sabotaging your business, speaking ill of you, etc. Your husband made vows to love, honor, and cherish you, and does none of the above.

Religion is for weak people who can’t develop their own morals and live by them.
The bible says divorce is ok if someone has committed adultery.
Also I would say divorce is OK if the woman is getting abused and it’s not safe for her to stay.
I think people give up too easily in general though these days
I think this question is whacking folks over the head with the Bible, which is not what that sacred book is for.
First you cannot just take one quote out of the Bible regarding divorce. Its not the entire picture.
Divorce is allowed under 3 reasons – adultry, abuse or abandonment. I would not want anyone to stay in a marriage where abuse is involved. Its possible to reconcile on the adultry or abandonment but only if the two want it to happen.
Divorce should not be the easy way to get out. However, on the flip side, marriage should not be easy to get into. People should take the time to know what it entails and that it takes work. Pre-marriage counseling and time to get to know the person should be first.
God created marriage to be one man/one woman. Anything else is against God. If you go into marriage the way God wants you to, the you have no problems. But too many believe THEY know how to do it and that is why you wind up with divorces, bad marriages, etc. – people think they know better then God knows better.
NO I don’t agree with it they don’t stop mix marriages why should they stop gay marriages Marriage should between two people whether they are gay are black are white as long as they are happy that’s all that matters
You must not be reading the same bible as me. You can’t simply take a verse and go with it. You’ve got to read it all. Yes it does say that but it also says that if you should …………. see? There’s much more to it. Also you are talking apples and oranges here. The bible also says marriage is between one man and one woman. It gives no exceptions.
SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though I don’t condone homosexuality, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Even though I don’t condone same sex marriages, doesn’t mean they aren’t happening and even though I wish you had a more in-depth understanding of what the bible says (in OT and NT) about divorce, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.
When Christ was on earth did He ever “force” anything on anyone? Did He ever shove the Word down any ones throats? No, He just spoke the truth and many followed. That’s what we have to do as Christians, walk and talk the truth. Just because we may believe one way doesn’t mean the other way isn’t happening.
In the end WE ALL will know the truth and ALL will stand accountable for our choices, all you can do is “live” and “talk” the truth
